#BookReview - Framed and Hung by Alexis Fleming

Description

Job satisfaction has never been this good…
If there’s one thing Zoe Chandler, Historical Restorations expert, knows, it’s that naked bankers aren’t supposed to look like Greek gods. Honestly, it’s enough to make any woman pause. Luckily, Zoe is more of a take-charge, rush-in-where-angels-fear-to-tread kind of girl, and she definitely has fantasies of rushing towards Jake. But Jake is a man who is all about control, and there’s no way he’s going to let Zoe run this show.
Nude paintings, blackmail, and mind-numbing sexual frustration…will either of them survive this project.

My Thoughts:
This was definitely one of those books that I got something I didn't expect out of. There are a lot of funny moments. However, I just couldn't bring myself to like Zoe. I didn't feel any sort of connection with her and she was too over bearing. For me, it was like Zoe took the male alpha lead in the book, which was a huge turn off for me.

#BookReview - The Wickedest Lord Alive by Christina Brooke

Description

CAN AN INDECENT PROPOSAL
Eight years ago, a tall handsome stranger entered Lizzie Allbright’s bedchamber and consummated a marriage of the utmost necessity. The Marquis of Steyne agreed to wed and bed Lord Bute’s admittedly lovely daughter to pay off his mother’s gambling debts. But once the deed was done, Steyne’s lawfully-wedded wife vanished into the London night…
LEAD TO EVERLASTING LOVE?
Years later, Steyne has nearly forgotten about his runaway bride. But when he suddenly finds himself in need of an heir, he has no choice but to track her down. Living happily in a small village under an assumed name, Lizzie is surprised to see her husband—and to feel such a strong attraction to him. But she is downright shocked when he asks her to bear him a son. How can they possibly repeat the heated encounter of their ill-fated wedding night without falling hopelessly in love?...in Christina Brooke’s stunningly sexy Regency, The Wickedest Lord Alive.

My Thoughts:
I suppose this story could be considered a bit dark and twisty (those who watch Grey's Anatomy get it). Family problems, of course. I'm not certain the title fits the books, but - I'm not here to critique the title. Right?

For me, this book was hit and miss. There were parts where I was bored and hoping something - anything - would happen. There were other parts where I didn't want to put the book down to make dinner.

Perhaps there was too much turmoil and unexpected happenings. Still not an entirely bad read.

 My Rating: 3/5

#Book Review - The Trouble with Texas Cowboys by Carolyn Brown

Description

Can a girl ever have too many cowboys? No sooner does pint-sized spitfire Jill Cleary set foot on Fiddle Creek Ranch than she finds herself in the middle of a hundred-year-old feud. Quaid Brennan and Tyrell Gallagher are both tall, handsome, and rich...and both are courting Jill to within an inch of her life. She's doing her best to give these feuding ranchers equal time-too bad it's dark-eyed Sawyer O'Donnell who makes her blood boil and her hormones hum...
My Thoughts:
Sometimes I really wonder how I miss all of these series. I always end up reviewing the 2nd, or 3rd, or 5th book in them and wonder how I'd missed them for so long. I may have to start taking a book for review and then reading all the ones that are previous before the newest. I'm a series junkie.

What I liked about this book is that it wasn't essentially the storyline of "man trying to save family ranch" - while Jill is going to inherit it, it does allow for a different direction to the story.

Another definite like for me was it wasn't an instant "holy hell I love you and have to have you" romance. It built up through the book as you got to know the characters. This was definitely a good read and I'd love to work the rest of the series into my TBR pile.

#BookReview How to Lose a Lord in 10 Days or Less by Elizabeth Michels

Description

“I want to know you, to understand anything at all about you, because you are the most maddening lady I have ever encountered.”

He’s the perfect gentleman…
After years hidden away from the mockery of the Ton, proud Andrew Clifton, Lord Amberstall, is finally ready to face Society again. But when his horse is injured on the road to London, Andrew finds himself literally thrown at the feet of the beautiful, infuriating, and undeniably eccentric Katie Moore.

…she’s anything but a lady.
Katie always preferred the stables to society, so when she was badly injured in a riding accident, she was more than happy to retreat to the countryside and give up the marriage mart for good. She never expected an infuriatingly proper lord to come tumbling into her life—and she certainly never expected to find herself wondering what it would be like to rejoin the world at his side. They couldn’t be more different, and soon Andrew and Katie find themselves at odds about everything but the growing passion between them…and a keen awareness of a threat that may end their unconventional romance before it has even begun.

My Thoughts:

This story focus' on two people caught in the mist of trying to move from past tragedies. To me, Andy's issue doesn't really seem to be much - maybe more of a pride thing. However, Katie's fear is real, as is the secure wall she's built around herself due to her family and her accident.

I enjoyed this story as it showed both healing in their own way through the help o each other. It also showed that sometime the one you thought was your enemy, can turn out to be  good friend. Second chances can be rewarding.

My Rating: 4/5

"
My Thoughts:
I always have a bit of difficulty reviewing a boxed set. Sometimes I wonder if I should split them up into separate reviews to do each author and story justice. As with all boxed sets, I enjoyed some stories more than others.

The plus side? These were ALL full length novels (plus a bonus short) and not a bunch of short stories. The negative side? Ms. Fenech has a book two in the set and I really wish it would have been a first book.

All in all this is a great set that will keep you reading for a few days. I managed one a day :) A great way to introduce yourself to some new authors.

#BookReview - Doctor Dom Series Sequence One by Tara Crescent

Description

Note: This series includes medical play (fully consensual), spankings, domination, graphic sexual scenes, and more.
***A surgeon with secrets. A woman craves to be spanked. When they get together in an examination room – what will happen next? ***
Triage:
My name is Lisa Preston.
I need to be spanked. I want to be dominated. And in the darkest and naughtiest corner of my mind, I fantasize about a Doctor tying me down on an examination table and using me for his pleasure.
When I meet Patrick at a club, and discover that he is a doctor, can I be brave enough to tell him what I need? And will the Doctor make my fantasies come true?
Observation:
There is an eight month period in my life that I do not permit myself to think about. The eight months of my life when I was Nick O’Malley’s sexual submissive.
I recognized the look in Patrick’s eyes today because I’d seen it before. I’d seen the same look in Nick’s eyes for eight months – a certain focused intensity and a calm control, before he began to steadily strip apart every little bit of who I was, every little spark of PERSONALITY, to create a sweet, willing submissive instead.
When I finally summoned the courage to break my terrible addiction, I made a promise to myself. No more. I’d play my spanking games, and I’d play at submission. But I could sense dominance in men, and I avoided it; I had determined that I was not strong enough to survive again.
The look in Patrick’s eyes took me back to that dark time. And I was adamant I wouldn’t go there again.
Diagnosis:
Less than a month ago, I met a gorgeous guy in a bar and went home with him. He spanked me. He put me on an examination table and made all my dark fantasies come true. He became a very important part of my life.
And then, I discovered that he had kept a secret from me. An important secret. A secret that made me walk away.
But... I dream of him. I miss him. I want him constantly. And now, something has happened, and I need him more than I have ever needed someone.

Will he be there for me? And can we both let go of our baggage and move forward?
My Thoughts:

I had a bit of an issue warming up to Lisa's character. No relationship in 12 years? I can see a few years, but 12? All because of one person?

Just to note, all medical play, BDSM, sex is all consensual (for those who may be wondering). There's no tricking into it or taking advantage of an actual patient. That being said, the writing style was good, but it seemed to be sex, sex, and then more sex mainly for the sake of sex. I understand sometimes that's the goal of the author and that might be the case.

There is a story but the sex seems to take it over.

 My Rating: 3/5

Review: Holly is a character that you can only describe as being innocently evil. She'll protect her family always, this includes her more than evil son and grandson -- no, I can't tell you why, you need to read the book.

This reminds me of the older horror movies and stories. Well told, with plenty of twists and turns and edge of your seat moments. For those of us that like psychological thrillers.
